When we finished this show one of us looked up by chance. It was exactly noon and the sun was directly above us. It had one of those circular rainbows around it. I dont believe in any of that scary stuff, but it was a funny coincidence. Pretty much everyone involved was a little spooked. I had never seen one of these before and have only seen one since.

LA Edge Festival 1999

this was an art event that took place at Bergamot Station and a few other places over about a week in September. Two girls from the audience just couldn't stand it that someone else had the spotlight, so they kept strolling arm in arm through our performance, trying hard to look like they were on their way to something important. I was fooled at first, but they did it 3 or 4 times. Of course they were nowhere to be found after the show..the girls in the performance went looking for them.

I love this picture because of that big white circular shape above us. We still cannot figure out what it is. It isn't a spot light (there is no building up there-just sky) and it isn't a lens flare (there is clearly stuff in front of it).

Ikea Burbank 2000

Nice photo by Jonathan Williams. This one was really fun. One lady with a stroller thought she was being mocked and freaked out on us. She yelled abunch of stuff at us and then quickly ducked into Macy's when it was over. These girls were tough and would have beat this lady to a pulp if they could have found her.

Photo by Lawrence Rengert. I love this image because she looks so serious. She is probably angry (at me): It was like 120 degrees with no shade anywhere. We had to haul lights and equipment for like a mile or two through this and then wait 3 or 4 hours to do our show. This just did everybody in. Two of the girls could not pay attention. They had never done one of these and knew nothing about the group. They kept dancing during the performance, until one of the older performers threatened to kill them. We're like "no, no, you're not supposed to dance!...try to look serious!". All they knew was that Beck was playing and they were missing it because they were standing there in an ugly dress being ridiculed and hit on by a mob of scary drunks from the Inland Empire. We were paid (and put up in a fancy condominium) to do 2 shows, given back-stage passes, etc., but Saturday was such an ordeal that 4 or 5 of the performers just went home. We did Sunday's show with only 9 girls and in the dark because i just was not going to haul all those lights and cords in there again. But, more people saw this, our sloppiest show, than all the others combined.

Beechwood Canyon/Hollywood Sign 1999

We made this one in a dogpark in Beechwood Canyon just below the Hollywood Sign for Projectspace Lemonsky (an art gallery). About 90 people showed up (we were tpretty happy to draw a crowd this size) and the show lasted about half an hour.

The Beverly Center 1998

After two or three formations inside the mall we got escorted from the premises by security. They couldn't tell us what we were doing wrong...I guess you are just not allowed to be in the mall if there are more than a few in your group wearing a white dress. Then we made this one in the intersection on La Cienega, stopping traffic for a minute or two. This is probably my favorite of all the images we made with this group.

Los Angeles City Hall 1998

This was our second performance. We made ring and line formations in several downtown LA locations, including the LA City hall, LA County Courthouse, Boneventure Hotel, and the LA Department of Water and Power. Lawrence Rengert made a very nice short film of this event.
